National Night Out a Success

AUSTIN, TX – Last Tuesday, Austin neighborhoods participated in National Night Out. The night out is an annual event held throughout the city, aimed at bringing citizens, law enforcement, and other first responders together.

During the event, people were asked to lock up their homes and spend the evening socializing with one another. Porch lights were turned on, neighborhoods shined brightly, and a sense of comradery was instilled in all. The event’s goal is to help neighbors and law enforcement officers come together to better protect the city.

According to organizers, National Night Out works every year to heighten the awareness of crime and prevent drug use. Neighborhoods are encouraged to support and participate in crime reduction efforts and come together to let criminals know that there are people out there ready and willing to fight back.

Tuesday night, residents mingled with EMS paramedics, firefighters and police officers. Across neighborhoods, cookouts were held, block parties were had, and neighborhood walks took place. There is no better time of year in the city to show criminals that their actions will not be stood for. Round Rock Police tweeted, “Tonight we visit 54 block parties during #NationalNightOut. Get outside, chat with neighbors & have fun with us!”

Those same sentiments were shared by many police departments throughout Austin and in all other states that support the event.
