School Bus Involved in Crash

AUSTIN, TX – A child was injured critically and others were injured in an accident last Tuesday that involved a school bus and three other vehicles.

According to authorities, the school bus was carrying 31 children when the accident occurred. A car was traveling northbound on Interstate 35. It entered the bus’s lane at about 3 p.m. and struck the bus’s front tire. This caused the bus driver to lose control of the vehicle and hit a light pole. A delivery truck and a van were also struck in the crash. The original vehicle then hit a tree and came to a rest.

Two children were transported to Dell Children’s Medical Center and four adults involved in the crash were transported to University Medical Center Brackenridge. A single child involved in the accident had serious injuries. None of the injured children who were transported were passengers on the bus.

According to district spokeswoman Tiffany Young, none of the children on the school bus were injured. Some did have complaints of pain, but none required immediate medical attention. Students’ parents picked them up at the scene and took them home.

The exact cause of the crash is still under investigation by local police.

The Austin School District says that there have been 15 bus crashes since 2014. In those accidents, only two children were injured to the point of requiring medical attention.
