Alcohol-Related Austin Auto Accident Leaves One Dead, One Injured

A recent auto accident in Austin hits home on an issue that we’ve discussed frequently – drunk driving fatalities.

On Sunday, August 10, Carlos Ruben Limones-Ortega lost control of his pickup truck and crossed over three lanes of traffic. He hit a concrete retaining wall, flipped over the wall, and landed upside-down on a northbound service road. He and one of his passengers were taken to Brackenridge with severe injuries. The other passenger, Jennifer Lynn Higginbotham, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Limones-Ortega was returning from floating the river in San Marcos, and had rum and a six-pack of beer in his system. He blew a .119 on the breathalyzer. He was arrested and could face 2-20 years in prison for this Austin auto accident.

The injured passenger is currently in Brackenridge recovering. She will face a long and expensive recovery. Since these injuries are the result of Limones-Ortega’s criminal actions, she should be compensated for pain, medical bills, lost wages, and recovery expenses. The Loewy Firm has helped clients in very similar positions—we work on a contingency fee basis because we believe that people need immediate help, not more bills.

Our thoughts are with the family of Jennifer Lynn Higginbotham. Limones-Ortega should be held accountable for her tragic, wrongful death. Our team recommends employing intense preparation and aggressive advocacy during this difficult and confusing time. In cases such as these, we feel honored to be the support system that the family needs.
