On July 26, 2013, APD Detective Charles Kleinert tracked down Larry Jackson Jr. and brutally beat him, breaking his ribs and perforating his colon. He then placed his gun to the back of Larry’s neck and pulled the trigger. This is the worst police shooting in the history of Austin and it culminated in a historic Manslaughter indictment in May 2014. The criminal trial of Kleinert will likely take place in Spring 2015.

To date, Austin Police Chief Art Acevedo has not said a single word publicly about this shooting. He has not called the Jackson family to explain what happened. He has refused to talk to the media about the shooting. He hasn’t even explained why one of his senior officers would track down an unarmed man down in broad daylight and murder him.

Chief Acevedo was recently spotted at a rally for Michael Brown, the young man killed by a police officer in Ferguson, Missouri. Why is Chief Acevedo showing up at this rally but refusing to comment on a comparably terrible shooting that occurred on his watch here in Austin, Texas?

The community deserves answers from Chief Acevedo about the Larry Jackson Jr. shooting. When are we going to hear from Chief Acevedo about this?
