Child Killed in Boating Accident Remembered by Family

A little girl was killed in a boating accident on Lake Travis over the Fourth of July holiday weekend. Her family recently spoke to KXAN about exactly what occurred on that tragic day.

According to her family, Hailey Falk, was hit in the head by a ski pole aboard the family boat. Texas Parks & Wildlife is investigating the accident as a boating malfunction. The five-year-old Falk is remembered as a little girl with a huge smile.

“She could walk into the room and just light the place up with her personality,” said the girl’s grandmother.

Hailey’s mother, Kelly Falk, said that the boat hit a hard wave, sending the pole out if it’s hole in the boat, hitting the child in the back of the head. The little girl died as a result of injuries sustained to her head.

Hailey is survived by her mother, father, and older sister, McKensie Falk, age 9. McKenzie told reporters that she will miss having someone to talk to. Just before the accident, Kelly reports that Hailey was swinging her feet, excited about the day on the water. Hailey told her family it was going to be the best day ever.

The family told reporters that they would like to thank everyone in the community who has shown support. The family is still grieving over the loss of the little girl but take comfort in their memories of the happy child who loved princesses.

There is a GoFundMe account set up in Hailey’s name to help the family pay for funeral expenses. There is also a Facebook page that honors Hailey’s life.
