Morgan Freeman Uninjured in Emergency Landing

Actor Morgan Freeman has released a statement letting fans know that he was not injured when the plane he was riding in was forced to make an emergency landing.

According to reports, Freeman was en route to Texas from Mississippi in a small aircraft with his pilot. One of the tires blew upon takeoff and the pilot was forced to make an emergency landing. The twin-engine plane’s landing was controlled even though the landing gear collapsed. The plan stopped just off of the side of the runway.

Freeman said in his statement, “Sometimes things don’t go as planned and a tire blew on takeoff, which caused other problems. But thanks to my excellent pilot Jimmy Hobson we landed safely without a scratch. I cannot say the same about my plane. I appreciate the concern and prayers for our safety.”

The plane was identified as an Emivest SJ-30 aircraft. The pilot reported a mechanical problem shortly after the plane’s takeoff from Fletcher Field in Lyon, Mississippi. The plan was heading for Sugar Land, just outside of Houston, but was diverted to another airport in Mississippi. Another plane was dispatched to pick up the actor and he was taken to his destination.

Freeman, known for his roles in several feature films, was involved in a serious car accident in 2008. He settled a lawsuit resulting from that accident just a year later.
