News: Elderly woman, 2 cats killed in condo fire on Metric Blvd

AUSTIN, TX – An elderly woman and two cats were killed in a condominium fire in North Austin this afternoon, according to information from KVUE.

The fire happened at a unit at Edgecreek Condominiums, located at 12166 Metric Boulevard, at around 3:30 p.m., and may have been started by improperly discarded smoking material.

The victim, who was not immediately identified, was discovered dead at the scene by firefighters. Additionally, two cats died in the blaze.

According to authorities, the unit did not have a functioning smoke alarm.

Three other condos were affected by the fire, causing a total of five people to be displaced, and around $275,000 in damage.

The fire remains under investigation.
