News update: Victim of May 9 collision on Research Blvd ID’d as 17-year-old

AUSTIN, TX – Authorities have released more information about an early-morning collision on Research Boulevard that led to the death of a teenager and the hospitalization of three other people on Sunday.

According to the Austin Police Department, the crash occurred in the 9400 block of Research Boulevard at 3:14 a.m. Sunday, when a driver crashed into a metal pole near the highway.

The driver and three passengers were hospitalized.

The victim, a 17-year-old boy who is not being identified here due to his age, was a passenger in the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the hospital in Round Rock at 4:24 a.m.

The victim would have turned 18 next month.

The accident, which is Austin’s 38th fatal crash of the year, remains under investigation.
