North Austin Pedestrian Killed in Multiple Car Crash

Original Article from KXAN:

“AUSTIN (KXAN) — Austin police are investigating a deadly crash in North Austin involving a man walking across Lamar Boulevard early Wednesday morning. The wreck happened just after 3 a.m. at the corner of North Lamar and West Longspur boulevards, just north of Rundberg Lane. North Lamar Boulevard is currently closed at Longspur Boulevard while police investigate the crash.

Austin police say a driver heading south on Lamar Boulevard hit the man walking across the street. That driver did stop. However, a second car then hit the person — but did not stop and instead drove off. The first driver is cooperating with police and helping in the investigation, as are other witnesses to the crash. That includes a nearby dump truck driver.

Police say the lights are flashing yellow at the intersection, which means drivers have the right of way. Police say the man walking across the street was a Hispanic male in his 40s. They could not specify which way he was walking across the street or why he was crossing. Officials say an autopsy will not be conducted.

Austin police say the investigation is ongoing.”

Our law firm represents pedestrians and drivers injured or tragically killed by other drivers’ negligence. Hit and run crashes are some of the worst cases we see. With a hit-and-run, the standard route for compensation becomes more complicated. Hopefully, police will be able to identify the second driver, and there will be enough liability auto insurance to cover his family’s loss and expenses.

If police locate the driver, but there isn’t any or enough insurance, the family can then explore coverage under their Uninsured / Underinsured Motorist (UIM) policy.

UIM is an elective coverage that we strongly recommend opting for. It provides payment if the insured driver is hit by an uninsured or underinsured driver. In this case, UIM is very important because it also extends to any interaction with a vehicle in use – you can be a pedestrian, bicyclist, or passenger in another car, and still be covered.

In this case there were multiple cars involved. Since the first driver is helping the police in their efforts, their insurance will likely be a source of remediation. This multiple car case will require investigation and the best personal injury attorney in Austin to skillfully negotiate each avenue of compensation.

In hit-and-run cases where there is a wrongful death, a skilled legal team is an invaluable resource. If you need further information or would like to speak to a caring expert about your specific case, please call (512) 280 – 0800 for a free consultation.
