School Principal Wins Amazing Austin Home

AUSTIN, TX – Talk about luck! We love a feel-good story, especially when it involves our city. Fans of HGTV may already know, but Isabel Villarreal’s dreams came true last week when she was named the winner of Austin “Smart Home” sponsored by the popular television channel.

The Rio Grande Valley resident entered the contest twice each day since April. Her name was picked at random from 40 million entrants. “It was the most wonderful news I had heard in my entire life.”

Villarreal is mom to three daughters and an elementary school principal. “I love Austin,” she told host Tiffany Brooks. “The location of the home was very special, partly because I am from Texas and I was born not too far from the home.”

Due to the lavish home and its location, property taxes will be too much for Villarreal to afford on her salary. She has chosen to sell the home and put some of the money towards retirement. She will be keeping her additional two prizes: $100,000 cash and a 2015 Mercedes-Benz C-Class. Like sales from the home, the prize money will be put towards her retirement.

The lucky winner plans on traveling to Austin to visit her new home at least once before selling it. She has only seen her state-of-the-art home on television and online. Even though she will not be able to afford the home, she is thankful to HGTV for their kindness and generosity.

We would like to congratulate Ms. Villarreal and thank her for her years of dedication to our local children. Without dedicated people like her, our children would surely suffer. If you would like to see Villarreal’s winning moment, you can tune into HGTV on August 14 at 1 p.m. ET.
